Thought of the day: Check-in
A quick reflection for today: A busy week filled with work and commitments can leave us feeling overwhelmed, which can easily disrupt our sense of balance. Winter, with its charm and coziness, also brings challenges—dark, cold, and wet days that make getting out and about, especially with kids, much harder.
After a tough morning trying to get everyone out the door on time, a thought struck me during the return walk from the school run. It’s easy to lose patience on those challenging days and forget to approach situations with a calm and thoughtful mindset. Yet, when we do, it not only helps regulate our children’s emotions but also leaves us feeling more grounded and capable.
Each day brings its uncertainties, which can leave us feeling out of control—a daunting place to be. However, one thing we can manage is our own reactions. While there will always be moments when fatigue, frustration, or stress make this harder, there are also times when a quick emotional check-in can remind us to draw on strategies and knowledge that support us in staying calm. When we stay regulated, the day tends to feel better for everyone.
